Mind Mapping

So we started a unit on statistics! Which is very exciting because who doesn't love statistics? We learned about many graphs such as categorical graphs and numerical data displays. To organize all this information, one of our assignments had us put all this information in the form of a mind map! A mind map is a visual representation of a central idea that has connecting branches of subtopics. For me it seemed super complicated, since there was so much to put down and some were loosely related while others weren't and just trying to show this was a bit hard. However, it helped me go over what I knew and didn't know and more importantly, study for my final!

I think this was a good assignment to complete because I was able to see which data displays I needed to study more. For example, I just couldn't get what the difference between categorical and numerical displays. Categorical is just putting things together by either color or even shoe sizes. Numerical were mostly about continuous change in numbers, for example change in temperature in December of every year would be data that we can graph with scatter plots. This is such a good idea to do with students, and can help them organize all there facts an see how some can relate to other subtopics. Here's mine below so you can see what I did! If you want to go deeper into what mind mapping is and what's the most effective way to do it,  recommend this blog that has a lot of information over this! It even shows you some resources where you can create a mind map online!

  1. Wow Ana! Your mind map is amazing. I agree with you on having to think about concepts that are loosely related and then having to connect them back to the central idea. I also really like the definition you used of what a mind map is. This assignment, at least for me, seemed kind of pointless in the beginning but once I completed it, it really did help me remember and connect which graphs were like another. I would love to see your mind map in person because I feel like your picture doesn't do it justice!

  2. Hi Ana, your blog is fantastic! I have to agree with you mind mapping was a difficult concept to grasp. But you I can tell you really embraced the idea. Just like you said its a great study tool and a way to make sense of all the information presented and their relation was the most difficult for me too. Your mind map was very detailed you did a truly amazing job!

  3. Hi Ana! Great job on your mind map you did an amazing job! I agree with you this was a good assignment to see what I need to study for this test. Before starting this assignment I though I knew all the graphs pretty well but after finishing I realized I need to study them a little more . I also like how you defined categorical and numerical. Great Job Ana!
